KONE Corporation, press release, May 25, 2013
The KONE TransitMaster® escalators that will be installed at the stations will be the first in China to be powered by the KONE Direct Drive(TM), an innovation that is up to 20% more efficient than conventional solutions. The most efficient drive in the industry, it minimizes overall energy consumption under highly variable traffic conditions, making it ideal for transportation hubs and other busy environments.
"We are honored that KONE's People Flow® solutions have been chosen to facilitate safe and efficient travel on the new Intercity Rail Line. We believe that our proven expertise in public transport projects combined with our innovative and eco-efficient solutions helped us secure the order," said William B. Johnson, Executive Vice President for KONE in Greater China.
Construction on the line commenced line in June 2012 and test runs of the trains are planned for April 2014. The official opening is scheduled for July 2014 ahead of the Youth Olympic Games to be held in Nanjing in August of the same year.
The main contractor for the project is China Railway Electrification Group Nanjing Co., Ltd., and the architects are from the Beijing Urban Construction Design Institute.
The order was booked in the first quarter of 2013.
